Today’s theorem: If your last name is Basu and you wear red, you can only be Bipasa Basu.
Get well soon.

It gets better and better!!
SRK must be either totally ignorant about Bengal or a genuflecting ignoramus to wish Jyotibabu a speedy recovery. I fully agree with The Pioneer’s Kanchan Gupta’s take on Jyoti Basu as the Destroyer of West Bengal
@ bengal voice
my thoughts abt the article in pioneer…
If it only were jyoti basu then why the people in Bengal are shifting loyalty to mamta banerjee who is anti progressive like jyoti basu…
And who was stopping traders of xyz or abc locality to grow their business!!
I have heard of complacency (e.g. afternoon nap habit) among rich bengali zamindars and traders of past ?!
its refreshing to see you managed to avoid taking a dig at SRK for this.

That is the real tragedy of Bengal, my friend. Traumatised Bengalis seem to enjoy masochism after several decades of Marxist-led abuse. When Bengalis shift their loyalties to Mamata Begum, it is like the state collectively jumping from the fuel to the fire. Not surprisingly, many of the smart and talented Bengalis have left Waste Bengal, and are prospering outside.

For decades, the CPM employed bands of Marxist and Jihadi thugs to extort from, subjugate and frighten the traders into subjugation. In such dire straits, the traders simply went into a self-preservation mode and stopped thinking about expanding their business.

This behaviour is best exemplified by Jyoti Basu himself, who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. My relative has actually seen with his own eyes how spoiled and narcissistic Jyoti Basu was. Jyoti-babu could not do without a sun-downer. The chap needed scotch in the evening on a daily basis. My relative is witness to Scotch being served to Jyoti Basu in Woodlands Nursing Home at the appointed time, as Jyoti-babu was visiting someone who was admitted to the nursing home. Jyoti-babu being a strict disciplinarian, the supply of scotch could not be delayed for any reason or else…
Another interesting fact that has gone unreported in the otherwise excellent Pioneer article :– During the 1962 Indo-Chinese war, Jyoti Basu was arrested and put behind bars for treason under Defense of India Rules (DIR), when, like most communists, he supported the Chinese aggression against India.
Jyoti Basu forever!
@HulG
RIP JB…I hope Jyoti Basu gets reincarnated in China – his holy land. Given his track record in WB, he will be able to help improve India for a change by helping China go down the toilet, as well.
Another interesting fact about Jyoti Basu is that he could neither read Bengali nor write Bengali. And yet, he ruled West Bengal for 23 years.
another article abt JB:

@bengalvoice
Despite all his faults, JYoti Babu managed to rule the emotionally volatile and idealist people of Bengal for 3 decades, and managed to put a ideology in place, the likes of which can only be overtaken by a worse version (read Mamta)of the same.
Jyoti Babu gave the finishing touch to the ruin that Partition and the displacement of millions of Hindus started, and 1958 and 71 fed.
@mrshoe
Thank you very much. I felt like I wrote that article myself. Abhijit Majumder took the words right out of my mouth.
@Utsav CHakraborty
And to think Jyoti Basu’s family hailed from Barudi (near Dhaka). Instead of learning from history and protecting West Bengal, he f**ked up our future by trying to be too-clever-by-half. JB insisted on dropping our West Bengal’s pants collectively and bending over to the Bangladeshi infiltrators and chanting (Chatur style): ‘Jahanpanah, tussi great ho. “Tofu” qabool karo.’
@Bv
🙂
Our country does need leader like Bipasha basu….. Whats there to laugh about ???
We need more leading movies like Jism from here=
@ Bengal Voice
It is true views on Jyoti Basu are very polarised, but you should authenticate statements like –
“Another interesting fact about Jyoti Basu is that he could neither read Bengali nor write Bengali”
This is mud slinging of the worst sort without knowing anything you are talking about
@Crypt,
Perhaps YOU don’t know what you are talking about !!!
In a recent article in an Indian business newspaper (the collaborating partner of Wall Street Journal), none other than former West Bengal CM Siddharth Shankar Ray, who was Jyoti Basu’s personal friend and bosom buddy, has written warmly and affectionately about his long-time friendship with Jyoti-babu (starting from 1947 onwards) inspite of the two differing on ideology and politics.
Through various personal anecdotes, Ray’s fondness for Basu and Ray’s help in preventing Basu from being arrested (during the emergency) have been highlighted in his tribute to Basu.
In that article, Ray mentions how he found out that Jyoti Basu did not know to read or write Bengali.
Jyoti Basu conveniently blamed his lack of Bengali-language skills on his alma mater (St. Xavier’s) which did not teach Bengali to its students. But what prevented Jyoti-babu from learning his mother-tongue Bengali at home or after he entered politics or atleast, after he became CM?
Of course, eloquence in English was not a problem to an Anglicized Basu. His distaste for his own heritage is reflected in his refusal to learn read and write in his own mother-tongue.
I think Jyoti Basu was the biggest and longest harming man to destroy WEst Bengal. His planted poisonous seed will do Bengal bad for thosands of years. The same way the communism will do bad to the whole nation for the same long years.
