Sainthood

How can a minister say that 90 per cent of the saints are not wearing their underwear? How did he know that?

Indeed how did he? Or rather why did he know that? For full context, read this.

And extrapolated to other “saints” like her πŸ™‚

  4. the politicians are 98 percent cheats….why the minister is so vocal abt hindu godmen ….did he see what commies supported madarsas are doing. has the minister forgotten that the commies burned to death 13 sadhus and sadhvis in broad daylight in kolkata.

btw i hate godmen travelling in luxurious cars. Even some godmen come on sanskar channel and dupe people openly. There is one baba with a program called ….third eye of [ i dont remember the exact name ] the baba sits in a hall wearing golden robe and talks nonsense. He loots in the name of sai baba.

  5. Because made up numbers have been shown to have more impact than real numbers in roughly 87% of the cases studied.

  6. @Bengali Guy: Awesome πŸ™‚ Now I know what he is talking about.

  7. funny as it is, i am glad the minister said that, strange statistics notwithstanding.

  8. How did he know that?

  20. Seems like there was some Basic Instinct syle interrogation done with the swamis by the misister. No wonder the minister is so angry!!

  23. These religious preachers are all a ‘bhand’..

  24. Hara hara bom bom May 20, 2008 — 7:35 pm

    andy_pundit – “These religious preachers are all a β€˜bhand’..”

What is boils down to :

    (a) Is there a God
    (b) Can these Godmen bring people closer to God.

The numerous experiences and narratives of current NDEs, and the exciting branch of astral travel, seem to suggest :

    (i) there is definitely a Supreme force that can be accessed by proper renunciation and technique.

(ii) the techniques being currently used (self-hypnosis, mind travel) very closely resemble what Hindu saints have preached for thousands of years.

So proper godmen can bring people closer to God.

Ramakrishna was not a fake. Vivekananda was not a fake. Patanjali was not a fake.

Spirituality and religion are such subjects that they require an initial element of belief, faith and devotion. They lend themselves to exploitation by unscrupulous individuals. There should be checks and balances on these.

But using that to write off the entire Hindu tradition is stupid propaganda. Or as they are Indian trachorous Communists, propagandu.

  25. @2H2B:

I appreciate the way u think. I can never ever say anything against Ramkrishnaparamhansa or swami vivekananda, i myself am a great follower of them.. all i wanted to say is these preachers now-a-days have themselves not done anything remarkable, so that they can be an idol for others.. I hate to say this( in this community esp) that people can learn a lot more from SRK( his never say die attitude/ his charisma/ energy/enthusiasm and everything apart from acting) than say from these so called swamis..
I myself read srimad bhagwatam(puran) and i derive my own versions from it which is applicable to my life and would help people around me.. and that is my religion, my way to live a Hindu life.
I just don’t think u need a medium (sadhu/saints) to reach god atleast today. you are as good as the sadhu who takes out a joint after every ‘gyan’ session.

I apologize if my earlier comment has hurt anybody.

    thus i justify my name andy_PUNDIT.. πŸ™‚

Our own Intelligent Design fan! πŸ˜€ Note the “definitely” in the sentence!

  27. bong!
This is a misquote..or rather a mistranslation, I’m sure!!! m pretty sure that Sreesanth never ever heard of the word “slugfest” before someone translated it from a Mallu channel! anyways. the minister might hav had a peek!

  28. @ Bengali Guy – not just sylvia, but also Ellen and Olivia… not putting links since this isn’t an xboard, (Om Googleaya Namah!) but it’s true – there ARE a lot of Saints sans suits out there.

  29. Actually, he meant the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_Saints_(band),

and other such saintly beings whose lives are daily chronicled by the trashy British tabloid media.

  30. Hara hara bom bom May 21, 2008 — 6:05 pm

    @ andy_pundit

Hey, andy_pundit, my comments were not directed at you at all, but at the egregious communists. Accept my apologies if you thought my invectives were for you, they were definitely not.

Far from ‘hurting my sentiments’, I agree with most of what you are saying. It is ok for us to cry hoarse at “imagined insults to the faith”, but for families who have been cheated by rogue swamis, that is scant consolation.

Evil & corruption, venality & sleaze, treachoury & terrorism, intolerance & hypocrisy, are all sins, and should be uprooted wherever they arise. Hinduism included.

I just think that the treachorous, India vivesecting, venal corrupt Communists have no right to direct their sleazy eyeball on Hinduism with the sole purpose of baseless denigration, while maintaining characteristic 5th columnist, anti-naional, silence on the shenannigans of machete wielding maulavis.

    Thus my point.

    @ Shan :
    >> HHBB : β€œNDEs & astral travel seem to suggest that there is definitely a Supreme force that can be accessed.
    > Shan “Our own Intelligent Design fan! Note the β€œdefinitely” in the sentence!”

For people who have experienced the force, there definitely is. Those that haven’t experienced them, cannot say there definitely isn’t.

I’ll explain. People who have received tangible subjective proof, have only one option; believe in what they have experienced and know to be true. So to them the force definitely exists.

Those that havn’t experienced it have four options :
    (a) Call the experiencers liars
    (b) Call the experiencers deluded, proving other scientific reasons to explain the experience
    (c) Doubt the experiencers, but maintain an open mind
    (d) Accept what the experiencers are saying are valid, and acknowledge the existence of a ‘higher’ truth for which humanity is yet to devise a method of objective experience.

From the developments taking place in the field, even if 95% can be explained away, a growing body of ‘evidence’ is emerging, subjective as it may be, that there DEFINITELY is something out there.

I have given you the weblink before. You may find some interesting material there http://www.near-death.com/

  32. @HHBB:

Thanks, but I will resist your exhortations to go over to the enlightened side. πŸ™‚

I am happy in my empirical existence.

Of course, the truth is out there (ref: X-files). Way out! πŸ˜€

    @ Shan

It’s a thrilling area of study. Especially when lakhs of people, seperated by chasms of geography, culture, age, language, economic class and religious beliefs, are reporting the same electrifying experiences.

And this includes famous personalities, some of them household names, who are at risk of attracting scorn and ridicule, and still proceed to narrate what they know happened to them.

I think basking in the leisure of the limited pebbles of known facts to date, clumped under the heading ’empirical existence’, is not a vigorous and evolutionary approach. Especially when confronted with a growing body of (albeit subjective) evidence to the contrary.

I was hoping you’d be a bit more inquisitive than that, but hey, it’s your prerogative. Hopefully, someday, when you have a bit more leisure and enquiry, I could entice you to take a few peeps at the site? πŸ™‚

  34. cleanliness is next to godliness.
    (clean) underwearness IS godliness.

  35. Hara hara bom bom May 22, 2008 — 3:44 pm

@ Swati – (clean) underwearness IS godliness.

What’s gross : If you chuck your undies at the wall

What’s very gross : If you chuck your undies at the wall, and they stick.

What’s grossest : If you chuck your undies at the wall, they stick. Then they slowly slide down.

What is the p-i-t-s : You chuck them at the wall, they stick and fall …… Then they crawl back up the wall !!!!

  36. @HHBB

The link that you gave was a nice read and makes one wonder. But as always there are two sides to a coin. For every link that one might give for one argument, there will be numerous sites proclaiming the opposite.
    http://www.infidels.org/ is one such example.
I’m not saying the atheists know anything more about existence than the believers do. I’m only saying that either side could be right.

You say “Especially when lakhs of people, seperated by chasms of geography, culture, age, language, economic class and religious beliefs, are reporting the same electrifying experiences” This holds true for agnostics and atheists too who are also separated by chasms of geography culture etc.
Point being, in todays age, with the presence of sites like these, no one is really separated from the other.
And mind you, there are famous personalities on the other side of the fence too, just goes to show that being famous and right have no correlation.

“Those that havn’t experienced it have four options :
    (a) Call the experiencers liars
    (b) Call the experiencers deluded, proving other scientific reasons to explain the experience
    (c) Doubt the experiencers, but maintain an open mind
    (d) Accept what the experiencers are saying are valid, and acknowledge the existence of a β€˜higher’ truth for which humanity is yet to devise a method of objective experience.”

Excellent options, i’d put myself in the (c) category. But don’t the same options apply to the believers too? Could it be possible that what they experienced was not really a proof of the ‘force’ but a very earthly phenomenon that they could not explain. Or maybe they were dreaming or hallucinating. Possible, ain’t it.

‘Earth is the centre of the universe’ was a fact sworn to by even people like Aristotle and Ptolemy, till Galileo came and spoiled the party. When they could be wrong, can you be so naive to imagine that you cannot be wrong?

You say “What is the p-i-t-s : You chuck them at the wall, they stick and fall …… Then they crawl back up the wall !!!!”
    LMAO

  37. Hara hara bom bom May 23, 2008 — 11:07 am

    @ Vishaal

Thanks for your excellent reply. Like you, I too am in camp (c), “i.e open mind, but cannot be 100% sure”.

I do however think that, while both experiencers (Es) & doubters (Ds) cannot prove with scientific certainty that it does or does not exist, I would think that the weight lies with Es.

Once we accept that the Es aren’t lying (& I think the sheer numbers & famous personages certify that), we are left with hallucinations. In many cases :

    (a) there are no hallucinatory causal factors involved (drugs, hypnosis etc)

    (b) there are mysterious factors at play that confound even established and developed streams of science (e.g clinically recorded death)

    (c) the content of the experiences appear to be far richer and spohisticated than the confused images associated with mere hallucinations (people reporting remote viewing, later proved to be correct)

As such, this indicates that there is something powerful out there. I also think that the importance of a positive experience is far more important than the weight of a negative doubt (i.e if 50% people say they have experienced and the remaining 50% doubt them, the former carry 10 times more weight).

Of course, I do not claim a 50:50 scenario. Its more like a 5:95 one !! However, even if one case can be proved to be true, reality as we know it will be altered beyond anything experienced in the last 4 millenia.

Glad you liked the sight. Please read the experience of a “Melon Benedict Thomas” on that sight.
