Rule 1: When arresting terrorists, put pillow cases on their heads. Preferably in shocking purple/ pink and with big yellow flowers on them.
Rule 2: Leave these macho men with these pillow cases on their heads with a 300 lb convict who has the prison name Maharani.
[Photo courtesy Reuters. The men in pink/red/purple are the two SIM-card procurers for the Mumbai butchers]
[Update: As per Akasuna No Sasori, one of these people is actually an informer. The other presumably is a terrorist. BBC link]
Rule 2…Ouch!
Just some thoughts:
1) Their disease is that they hate India. They hate Indian-ness and want to see Islamic Law established in India. K Sibal, former foreign scretary, said yday that precision strikes on militant camps would be useless since it’ll be like curing the symptoms. They’ll just mushroom elsewhere. The fact is that WE can never cure the disease. We cant go and preach to them not to hate us. So we must go after the “symptoms”.
2) Non state actors. First they said they werent pakistanis. Now they say they are non state actors. I say, treat their kind as “terrorists” till their nationality is proven. Once the nationality is proven, start treating them as soldiers from their country/state. “Terrorists attack mumbai”…”Pakistani soldiers attack civilians in mumbai” sounds a whole lot different doesnt it?….My point being “non state” and state butchers must be treated at par.
3) Javed Jaffrey was asked near the Taj during the attacks whether the security situation made him worried. He replied, “i’ve been worried ever since delhi 1984, godhra and orissa have happened.”…I dont like that kind of statement. And yet, I cant fault him for saying it either.
looks like a rainbow-parade or something! Bheryy COLORFUL !
@GB- You should correct the typo in the post title π
Unless it was intentional (though I can’t imagine why)
@Rex: Corrected. Thanks
Rule 3: make them hear sarkaile khatiya on a neverending loop or make them watch tahader kotha.
These flowery, pink masks are different. Earlier, the police used black (hangman’s) masks…. The Jamia Nagar terrorists were covered with Yasser Arafat’s favorite red, chequered Kaffiyeh scarves.
Rohit,
I am surprised that Javed Jaffrey has such a short-term memory. For him, does history only begin in 1984?
@ Rohit
Wow !! Did Kapil Sibal actually say that ?? That would be a Christmas present for me . Every time something happens we just ignore the actual root cause behind these acts which is the evil dream of the perpetrators and their baaps of establishing Islamic rule in India ….
Can you give me the link to Sibal’s comments …
Sorry to chidak the thanda paani on people’s revenge fantasies, but one of the two men is said to be an undercover operative for the cops. His job was to provide known SIM cards to LET people in J&K so the cops could track them.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/7771243.stm
So it seems.
“His job was to provide known SIM cards to LET people in J&K so the cops could track them.”
This part didnt work all that well in the end. Right?
Do you think Kapil Sibal doesnt know what the reason behind Jihad attacks are?
Okay I give you that Sonya Gandhi and Rahul Baba dont care and are not that well read, but do you think MMS or Pranab Mukherjee doesnt understand the motivation behind Jihadi terror?
They understand everything.
The problem is that actually admitting to the real problem leads to a bigger issue, ie, taking the responsibility of solving it.
It will take a leader with immense balls and charisma to rise above the “vote bank” politics and awaken India to the real reason behind Islamic terror, and at the same time remain popular.
Unfortunately, people themselves dont want to look at the real issue. It is so much easier to blame the “symptom”, ie, Pakistan. That way, we can curse all we want on online forums, throw around a few names like Muridke and Muzaffarabad and then go to bed, until the next 100 people are butchered.
All this while the noose tightens around our necks, slowly, everyday.
“This part didn’t work all that well in the end. Right?”
Absolutely, but is police ineptness his fault ? Why should he become Maharani’s Rajkumar/Kutiya because cops couldn’t hand each other information in time?
@AnS: The point is any terrorist picked up should be given a pink pillowcase. At the point of writing the piece, I did not (like many others) know that one of them is a police operative. Since I did not possess the knowledge then, I wrote they deserve special treatment. If I had known that one of these was part of the police and then asked for Maharani treatment for him, then yes I would have been blaming him for police ineptness. Which of course I was not.
Any surprise that the police screwed this up? And why the heck did J&K police have to disclose that this guy was their informer? Couldn’t they have whispered this to their Calcutta counterparts once everything cooled down? Everything in India invariably does, 11/26 will too until the next attack.
@GB, ANS: Where did you guys find out about the Maharani reference? Am I missing a link ?
or a joke?
Point taken
Anonymous,
I so agree with you.
We Indians are sure dumb. (So is the Congress-UPA government.)
We keep doing the same thing (Appeasement of Jihadists) over and over again, but we expect different results each time.
How is that possible? π
Somehow this post reminds me of the title track from ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’.
Parveen Babi has no clue from the height the structure that the Father is Big B, till he removes his little goatee to show his chin and say ‘Pehchano anjano ko’!
@Sanjana: Just a joke
@ Rohit,
Regrettably, the Javed Akhtar mindset is not limited to the entertainment/media crowd, a whole host of pseudo-intellectuals have jumped on this bandwagon.
For e.g. http://www.countercurrents.org
@ Anon
former foreign scretary is Kanwal Sibbal not Kapil Sibbal. yes they both are releted..Ther Are Brothers.
Arnab Da, No Comment About “PM Security of PM is childs Play”
I hope you heard about the West Bengals police’s unique plan to Deploy students in PM MMS visit in Shantiniketan
Can someone here find out whether Pakistan has the legal rights to file charges and prosecute a citizen of some other country for crimes committed against/in that country?
I found the following “Pakistan: Extradition Act, 1972” on the net:
http://www.oecd.org/dataoecd/2/54/39365414.pdf
as per the earlier reports…it was said tht terrorist spoke fluent english..now we r hearing tht he is class 4 passed or sth…starnge
@Bhabhi
I know a couple of people with Masters’ degree but can’t speak fluent english. Of course, 4th class passed students can always learn fluent english using Rapidex english speaking course (INR 150 free shipping within India) I guess. Or should I say, I am guessing…..still starnge?
@Shashi…well i fall in ur first cat…master’s degree and can barely speak in english….but considering the guy who is told to be living in villages, his background and education….its hard to assume tht Rapidex english speaking course (INR 150 free shipping within India) can make u speak fluent english….kapil paaji is still learning…isnt it?
Can someone tell me why the arrested always have their faces covered? I mean, why not show everyone their faces?
@Savita Bhabhi
Point taken.
Shashi? who’s that now?
@Laborer….oh…he used to by my milkman π
Ha, i wonder whose pillows were denuded to provide a ‘face saving’ devise for these (a)gents. It would be a real nice job for someone to arrange pillow covers, scarves and other concealment gear for criminals. What thought would go into it.
Pretty much like deciding the menu. Last time it was the black pillow case. The white one is dirty, that pickpocket puked in it, the Kaffiyeh would not be suitable in these times, hmmmm.. there is a new floral set lying unused. It will perk up the mood as well.
The police man in the pillow makes perfect sense. He was the undercover agent. Why the other guy?
A point of fact. These two turned out to be shady guys who would procure sim cards by the dozens and sell them to kashmiri shawl walas who found it difficult to get sim cards outside j&k. So we don’t know which shawl wala bought the cards and passed them on to someone who gave it to LeT. This catch, in other words, was not so hot. And yes, pillow cases were funny.
(friendly banter…don’t slap a harassment case now!)
The policemen are goofy.
If they want more info about pillows, shawls and hot catches they should try savithabhabhi here. That should get them more revealing answers…what say bhabhi?
@Laborer…i prefer to act…thn talk
I am really curious to know why they cover faces of criminals when they are taken to court or photographed, is it in the Indian constitution? In the US I don’t see any thing like that, maybe they will cover their face with a hand or a sweatshirt hood but why a pillow case, burqa etc. the other thing that bothers me is cops holding hands with criminals as if they are lovers. what is with that? shortage of handcuffs?
Please read my 2 cents worth here:

Nice one!
Terrorism is a reality. It is an anti national element. There are many things required to be practically, judiciasly and diplomatically considered irrespective of the differences of race and religion. There are many things that the media never projects and there are many things which our own political leaders wont disclose. But largely baically the act of terrorism must be brought out with the firm conviction of waging war against the government of India or any nation where such activity takes place and which sucks away the innocent lives of many people leaving within the nation. Never the less there may be enn number of policies or there may be enn number of dibates taking place. But the ultimate aime of every nation includeing India the people must be trained to face the unforseen circumstances and the truma that surrounds them when such a brutal act takes place.
Ultimately to conclude simply I see the whole aspect of terrorism is like that of a virous entering a personal computer and the things are such which are to be delt just as an hardware handles a personal computer to heal the virous.
