Just when you thought you had seen the last of Buchanan’s magic, he pulls out yet another rabbit from his golden helmet.Β [Link]
Kolkata have now devised a new sign language to communicate with each other on the field, in order to negate the language problem that players of different backgrounds have to contend with in the IPL, and at the same time, to keep the opponents guessing about their strategies.
An adaptation from baseball, the Knight Riders team have learnt these new signs to get their field-placings right, and to guide the bowlers about what line and length to bowl against particular batsmen. According to sources, the elevation of wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum to captaincy is also seen as an extension of the baseball logic, where the catcher behind the plate discusses the next throw with the pitcher using sign language.
Details are sketchy as to what exactly these signs are. But according to one source, the middle-finger means “give the ball to Agarkar” and the “throat-cutting” gesture means Brad Hodge is coming into bat.
The jury is still out on what the above hand-gesture means but according to one source, it may have something to do with “Little John.” (name courtesy FIPLp)
at last..
Now will read the post π
Great writing GB. The photo complemented the writing perfectly.
The color she is wearing is obviously not a night-rider color. One of my colleagues says she is asking for an inhaler. Because cheerleaders of other teams were kept busy most of the time by their teams, unlike the KKR girls who didn’t have much to cheer for. So may be this girl, my colleague says, is out of breath and wants an inhaler. I doubt if that’s a pout that asks for one.
Little John π
I totally agree with you on the ‘middle finger’ sign. I’d rather go to the extent of surmising that the middle finger sign would mean to convey ‘shove the ball up Agarkar’s….well…you know….posterity’. Meanwhile, there’s a lot to be learnt about such innovative gesticulations. I hope the KKR management comes up with a ‘Handbook of Hand Signs and Assorted Gestures’ for the benefit of the crowd and the television audiences. The book would, undoubtedly, come in handy while driving through crowded roads in a metropolis. They could, perhaps, sell the book through some ingenious franchise strategy and earn an obscene amount of money.
Once I had this fantastic idea that FIPLp could be you. Duh!
And on the accompanying picture, I think it conveys – ‘Little John, when he has bowled his maiden overs’ π
To Rofl Indian :
on the other hand, it can also convey “Little John, when he has bowled his maidens overβ … lol
I just cannot explain the joy i get in watching KKR lose… π
Ashutosh: Exactly. π
This did cross my mind, but by then I had already posted my comment.
Cheers
@Ashutosh
LMAO!!!!
GB,
Here’s what Buchanan had to say when asked about the combination of KKR: “We tried to work out a combination at Bloemfontein. We even discussed this with Gayle. Earlier we didn’t get the chance to form the combination this way. It’s late may be, but I’m sure that the combination we have formed now is ‘the best’.” (Courtesy: Interview to Anandabazar Patrika, April 29)
The best combination??? I’m sure his laptop validated this with various arbitrary algorithms. Way to go, don’t u think?
“and at the same time, to keep the opponents guessing about their strategies.”…..as if there were any.
moreover these are some more pointers for the aforementioned book
finger: as said above
Wan*er: bowl in the blockhole (or smthng else?)
shocker: bowl straight to batsman, not on the stumps ()
mooning: ask the batter to hit me here not for a six (esp for Agarkar)
for reference
scroll down: go to Obscene Gestures {what else} category
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finger_(gesture)
there can be many
PS: btw the writing style of FakeIPLPlayer reminds me of GB himself :)… is there a connection?? π
color: #4169E1;
There is one more animated gesture guys : however this for external affairs. This is to be communicated to the opponent team off-spinner by the non striker batsman when a certain person is on strike. The gesture goes like this:
He folds his left hand into a loose fist, such that the thumb and index finger forms an annular shape and faces him.
The other, free hand will have an outstretched palm facing down.
The outstretched palm would stroke the annular shaped fingers of the closed fist in a repetitive fashion thus making a muffled clapping noise.
If the noise is too muffled owning to the gloves worn and the din of the stadium further kills it , then a vocal assistance may accompany to enhance the same.
@GB: Trying very hard to post in a coloured font… π Is that possible?
@GB: ^^ OK that wont work^^ , however, bullet points wont show up in the final post though its available in the preview …
the best players in IPL 2.0 till now
Shane Warne
Sachin Tendulkar
Daniel Vettori
Jayasuriya
Rahul Dravid
Saurav ganguly
I must say class is shining thru.. Even in KKR Dada is by far the best player… And it is a privilege to watch Warne play even now!
Can’t see the foto… can you provide the link to it???
GB.. Are u getting paid huge for cricbuzz. u r not urself on that forum…….
Another very stealthy gesture can be simultaneously twisting your right ear and talking your tongue out by a wee bit. It would imply that the bowler should bowl in a particular line or length taking advice from here.
Link NOT WORK SAFE. USE HEADPHONES !!!
Dude r u the FIP? tell us the truth
GB:^^ Time to start blocking specific IPs… ^^
the last picture indicates a measurement. The question is whose measurement it is π
may be she is asking for ” One Eyed Monster” π π
As FIP would say, she must be reminding McCullum of whats in store from Vinnie if he loses this one.
More gestures:
1. Bend over = Just give up guys, the other team is whipping us.Lets not make it difficult for them.
2. Gaze at sky = Everyone pray to their respective gods and request for rain or some miracle (eg above average batting from KKR)
3. Wave at SRK = This is a request by KKR players to SRK , asking him to use his connections with priety requesting Yuvraj to show mercy when he’s hammering KKR bowlers.
Arnab,
Your fourth article for Cricbuzz is a masterpiece. Many people seem to be pissed off with your Cricbuzz articles. I think you have adopted the right strategy to satisfy all and sundry- by giving a short post with pics (your specialty) and then linking to the Cricbuzz article. To me, a long time reader, the cricbuzz article is like a talented actor’s performance in an art film, one who is more famous for his commercial successes. It is a very nice article indeed. I once heard Eric Clapton in an interview saying that many of Jimi Hendrix’s songs are unappreciated as he performed them at such a level that no one but himself could reach those depths to appreciate it. He is of course the first name in guitar. I feel that the same holds for some of your pieces. I suddenly feel all charged up now. π
I am richer than you bitches! π
